Fiction Thesis: Rules of Stars and Ashe
During my time in the Masters of Fine Arts (MFA) in Creative Writing graduate program at Converse College, my creative thesis centered around 15 short stories all set in Florida and explored the interior lives of women, men, and families all set against the backdrop of Florida’s natural environment.
My academic work deep-dived into southern women writers with a focus on the Appalachian region. My critical work explored how two women writers — Jayne Anne Phillips and Bobbie Ann Mason, interpreted the Vietnam War in fiction through their works Machine Dreams and In Country respectively.
